Continuous bloom caster from SMS Concast excel in integrated moulds, tundish heating systems, novel design for strand support and controlled surface quenching. In addition to delivering the mechanical components, SMS Concast also provides metallurgical models.
Castings machines with a typical radii of 10 to 16.5m, are equipped with the latest technology including INVEX® Mould Technology, electromagnetic stirring system and complex logistic and tertiary cooling systems.
Bloom sections start from medium size of 240 mm square or round. Larger rectangular sizes range from 500 mm by 600 mm. Increasingly, we are also producing largest rounds of up to 1000 mm with continuous casting technology which up to now was only possible with ingot casting.
Bloom sections are required, when final steel products with ultimate cleanness and sound internal quality for high-end application (ultra-clean high carbon wire, special forgings, ball bearings, stainless steel products, etc.) are to be manufactured. The same applies, when the size of the final product is extremely large (large axles for trucks, crankshafts, springs, rails, etc.).
In order to further perfect the steel quality, we use the Dynamic Mechanical Soft Reduction (DMSR). Thus the hot strands are either rolled positionally or force controlled by 10 to 20 mm in order to improve interior strand quality considerably.
