2. Beam Blank

Beam Blanks are near-net shaped products used to feed medium and heavy section mills. This state-of-the-art casting technology was invented by SMS Concast who is currently the market leader in this special field.

An important aspect is that SMS Meer can offer the complete processing chain for the production of beams from one source: SMS Concast provides the caster (including the meltshop EAF and secondary metallurgy) and global market leader SMS Meer supplies the required medium or heavy section rolling mill.

The currently largest beam blank section in use has a height of 490 mm, a width of 1150 mm and a web-thickness of 130 mm. This required completely new approaches in design and dimensions of the moulds as well as the entire set-up of continuous casting equipment.

The main characteristics are:

First beam blank caster installed by SMS Concast
36 beam blank casters installed with Concast technology
Special moulds for any size including super-near-net-shape in both tubular or plate type design
